The 10 Commandments of Author Branding: Embrace Authenticity, Gain Book Ambassadors, and Create Your Tribe

by Shayla Raquel

Genre: Non-fiction: Author branding and marketing

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

What is it about?

A practical guide to help authors create a brand for themselves (not their books). A how-to with simple and easy step-by-step instructions that not only show how to take those steps by why.

There are thousands of these kinds of books on the market, so what makes this one stand out of the crowd?

I personally love the tone of this book. It's light, chatty and humorous. Author branding sounds like such a scary task to undertake and some of the other resources out there are so dry and formal that they can be a bit overwhelming. The tone of this book is like chatting to a friend who is great at giving advice and practical pointers, and who isn't shy to tell you what happens when it all goes wrong.

Even if you're a writer who is being serious about growing your career, there's no need for it all to be so stiff and businesslike—you need to enjoy the journey. As the author explains in this book, the way to connect with readers and other professionals as an author these days is to be your authentic self.

I was so excited by so many suggestions in this book that I put it down several times to immediately implement the advice on my own author platform! Yes! The ideas are that exciting! Even if you don't know how to do something, the e-book is packed with links that take you to checklists, resources and how-to videos that enable you to implement the advice.

Naturally, as with all books of this nature, while all the advice is good advice, it's okay to pick and choose what works for you at the moment and slowly build up to the rest. Building a brand doesn't happen over night, so it's okay to take it at a pace you're comfortable with. That said, when you are ready to take another leap forward, this is one of those books that you will keep going back to for help.

I highly recommend this book for new writers, or established authors who are new to having a technology-driven author platform.
